Technology and AI Policies
Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Academic Publishing Specify acceptable use of AI tools in manuscript preparation and review, ensuring human oversight.
GJMHS adheres to the ethical guidelines established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in research and publication. This includes ensuring compliance with the principles of authorship, integrity, and transparency.
Disclosure of AI Use:
At the time of submission, authors must disclose whether artificial intelligence-assisted technologies (such as Large Language Models [LLMs], chatbots, or image creators) were used in the production of the submitted work. This disclosure should be clearly described in both the cover letter and within the manuscript itself.
AI as a Non-Author:
AI tools such as chatbots (e.g., ChatGPT) are not eligible to be listed as authors. As AI lacks the ability to take responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the work, these qualities are essential for authorship. Therefore, the authors are solely responsible for any material in the manuscript that involved AI assistance.
Review and Editing Responsibility:
It is the responsibility of the authors to thoroughly review and edit any AI-generated content, as AI outputs may appear authoritative yet could be incorrect, incomplete, or biased. Authors must ensure the accuracy and quality of the final manuscript, and must not rely solely on AI-generated results without human verification.
Plagiarism and Attribution:
Authors must assert that their manuscript, including any AI-generated text or images, is free from plagiarism. Proper attribution must be made for all quoted material, ensuring full citations are included for any external sources used, including those generated by AI. Authors should ensure the integrity of their work by adhering to proper citation practices for any AI-generated content.
Compliance with COPE and ICMJE Guidelines:
GJMHS’s AI policy is aligned with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Position Statement on AI tools (February 2023) and the ICMJE Recommendations (January 2024). These guidelines emphasize transparency, authorship responsibilities, and the ethical use of AI in medical research and publication.
